North Liberty is a small but rapidly growing city located on Interstate 380 between the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City metro areas, roughly 7 miles from downtown Iowa City and 17 miles from downtown Cedar Rapids. Population is estimated at over 10,000 in 2008.
North Liberty was settled by John Gaylor and Alonzo C. Dennison in 1838. Originally Known as “Big Bottom” or “North Bend” (of the Iowa River), later it was “Squash Bend” and incorporated as the municipality of “North Liberty” in 1913.
