Joint Work Session
At 7:00 p.m., Mayor Salm called the special session to order.
Council members present: Chipman, Donahue, Hoffman, Kuhl, Wozniak
Library Board members present: Shawn Selch, Peggy Waters.
Library Expansion Committee members present: Adam McGlaughlin, Doug Neale.
Others present: Ryan Heiar, City Administrator; Tracey Mulcahey, Assistant City Administrator; Dee Crowner, Library Director; Jennie Garner, Assistant Library Director; David Hoeksema; Lori Lindner, Shelly Simpson, Recreation Director; Cheryle Caplinger, Telecommunications Director; Bill Montgomery.
Introductions. Members of the Library Board and the Expansion Committee introduced themselves.
Approval of the Agenda. Kuhl moved, Hoffman seconded to approve the agenda. The vote was: ayes – Donahue, Hoffman, Kuhl, Wozniak, Chipman; nays – none. Motion carried.
Proposed Library Expansion and Fundraising Project Discussion. Mayor Salm began the conversation introducing two letters from Councilor Kuhl and Councilor Donahue. Council members expressed their concerns regarding the proposed expansion. Members of the Library Board and Friends of the Library expressed their opinions regarding the expansion. Library staff expressed their thoughts regarding the expansion. After significant discussion, Council consensus was that all are in support of library expansion but not to the extent proposed. Council will review the total list of projects and determine how much funds are available for the expansion project. The casebook and feasibility study will be put on hold until the Council strategy can be finalized.
Adjourn. At 8:33 p.m., Chipman moved, Wozniak seconded to adjourn. All ayes. Meeting adjourned.
