Staff Presentation. Heiar briefed the Commission in general that a significant economic development project may be developed at the site commonly known as “The Villas” property located between Kansas Avenue and I-380, north of Forevergreen Road. Adding this property to the Urban Renewal area allows the city to utilize Tax Increment Financing as a tool to assist with the project, subject to future agreements that may be developed.
Questions and Comments. Commission members asked about the potential development, but staff was unable to give specifics at this point in time because the project is in early development phases and is still confidential. In any case, the Urban Renewal designation is not approval to enter into development agreement, but to make such agreements possible.
Recommendation to City Council. Frost moved, Wilkerson seconded to recommend approval of the Urban Renewal Plan Amendment to the City Council. The vote was: ayes – Wilkerson, Haack, Mausser, Anderson, Detlefson, Frost; nays – none. Motion carried.
