Scales Bend to Start Soon, Forevergreen Road Moving Ahead

I can’t believe it’s Friday already!  This beautiful weather made the week fly by.  It also helped the progress of our construction projects.

The contractor is finishing up the base work on Forevergreen Road this week.  If the weather holds, they will be paving as early as Tuesday.  They’ll pave from Highway 965 on the west to the first house on Forevergreen.  The next step will be to prep and pave all the way to Jones.  There is still much work to be done on this project but it is exciting to see us reach each milestone.

The Scales Bend overlay project is slated to begin on Monday, July 19.  LL Pelling will be doing the work for this project.  Day One of the project will consist of shoulder widening and excavation.  Day 2 they will mill the existing asphalt.  In other words, the will remove the top layer of the road.  Days 3 and 4 they will place the new asphalt.  As long as weather cooperates, the project will be very quick with LL Pelling only needing four days to make the improvements.  Because this area is very populated, LL Pelling will not begin work on this project until 8:30AM each day, allowing time for the morning traffic to move through.  In addition, there will always be one lane of traffic open during the project and flaggers will be on the job site.  Despite that, travelers should plan for extra time when using Scales Bend the week of the 19th.

We are keeping LL Pelling busy in July as they will be heading to west Forevergreen Road immediately after completing the Scales Bend Road Project.  Their intent is to start the overlay project west of Jones Boulevard on Monday, July 26.  This will be a three day project, consisting of prep work and then laying 4-inch of asphalt down.  They will be tying into property owner’s driveways as well.  During the three-day project Forevergreen Road will be closed from Kansas Avenue to Highway 965.  Local traffic will be able to access their homes.  During the week of the 19th, some base work will be completed on this section of road.  However, interference with traffic should be minimal.

As you can see, things are moving right along!  I am excited about all the improvements we are making to the roads system this year.  While it can be an annoyance to have to wait in traffic and be held up by a flagger, the end result will be worth the wait.

As you know, we celebrate our Country’s independence this Sunday.  If you run into a veteran or member of the Armed Services, be sure to shake there hand or offer a thank you.  Without these people’s dedication and willingness to serve we wouldn’t be celebrating this weekend.  Have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
