Side Switching on 965

Excitement is in the air at the Heiar household as the start of the Hawkeye football season is right around the corner.  My wife Stephanie, son Tanner and I are excited to watch some football.  Ellie, our 4-year daughter, on the other hand, is excited to see the cheerleaders.  She has just started a cheer-leading class and has informed me that some day she will be cheering for the Hawkeyes.  I feel pretty good knowing I have developed such diehard Hawk fans.  As you enjoy the tailgate and football season be sure to be careful and cheer loudly for our beloved Hawkeyes.

I could spend a lot of time blogging about Hawkeye football, but I am guessing you didn’t come to this site to read about sports.  With that in mind, let’s talk streets…

Work continues at the Jones Boulevard/Forevergreen Road intersection and will do so for the remainder of the month.  The road itself looks great!  It is still closed to through traffic but should be open in October.  It’s great to see this project coming to a conclusion.

Next week, we will be shifting traffic to the west on Highway 965.  All of the concrete work on the west side of the road is complete.  So, on Thursday (a week from today), we will shift traffic, allowing vehicles to travel on the new concrete and work to begin on the east side.  The shift should not cause a major delay in traffic as two lanes will remain open.  That said, pavement markings will be removed prior to the shift and machinery and workers will be in the middle of the roadway during this time.  As always, drive with extra caution when workers are in the middle of the road.

Seeding should begin next week.  This is exciting in that all of the long weeds that have grown on the side of the road should be removed, top soil spread and seed planted.  Completion of this step should improve the aesthetics of the area.

Also on next week’s agenda is the closing of Golfview Drive and Holiday Lodge Road in order to begin intersection and realignment work in that area.  When these intersections close, residents of Holiday Lodge will need to use Westwood Drive to access Highway 965 while residents of Golfview Park will need to use Hawkeye Drive.  These closures will certainly be inconvenient, but, when the project is complete, access to Highway 965 from Golfview Drive will be much improved.

That’s all for now folks.  Have a great weekend and go Hawks!
