Progress Continues…

The pervious pavement at the Penn Meadows parking lot project is being poured today. We were a little concerned that the weather was going to hold us up this week, but despite yesterday’s rain, we are able to proceed.
We will be shutting off water tonight along Penn Street from Jones Boulevard to Dubuque Street.  Our staff has knocked on every door that will be affected by the temporary shut off to prepare and inform residents.  The shut down will begin at 8 p.m.  Everything should be back on within eight hours.
You may have noticed that Jones Boulevard just south of Penn Street remains open.  This section of roadway was scheduled to close last week for a period of about a month.  Due to some delays by a utility company, that closing has been pushed back.  Look for it to close sometime next week.
The Golfview Drive Connection Project is scheduled to begin next week.  Contractors will begin on the east side of the creek and work their way west.  Below is a letter that has been sent to folks who live adjacent to this project.

RE: 2011 Golfview Connection Project
Dear Resident,
In the next few days, work will begin on the 2011 Golfview Drive Connection Project, which will extend Golfview Drive east, over Muddy Creek and the railroad tracks. Contractors will begin on the east side of the creek and work their way west. For the most part, travel should not be affected since the bulk of the work consists of building a new roadway. However, later in the project, the gravel section in the middle of Golfview Drive, on west side of the creek, will be reconstructed in concrete.
While this work is being completed the road will remain open. That said, traffic delays and limited parking are possibilities. The construction will also affect the North Liberty Trail, which will remain open for as long as possible, but will be temporarily closed at Golfview while the new road and subsequent trail crossing are built. Detour signs will be in place at Zeller Street and Forevergreen Road directing trail users to Front Street.
As the project moves forward, updates will be available on the city’s website at northlibertyiowa.org/projects. You can also find my blog at this location, which is updated regularly with information about all of the projects ongoing within North Liberty. Additionally, we will issues press releases when larger events, such as road closures, are scheduled. If you would like to be included on the city’s press release e‐mail distribution list, please send an e‐mail to [email protected] with the subject line of “please add me to your distribution list.”
While this project may cause some temporary inconveniences, I am certain the end result will be worth the delays.
We appreciate your patience throughout this project.
Take care and travel safely.
Sincerely,
[signed]
Ryan Heiar

And finally, the Highway 965 project is wrapping up.  My thanks to everybody for their patience throughout this project.  There is still some minor work to be completed, including seeding, silt fence removal, the installation of two retaining walls and painting the seats walls.  The plan now, weather permitting of course, is for the project to be closed out in June.
Thanks for staying informed.  Feel free to post a question if I’m not providing the information you are looking for.
Have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend!
