Great Weather Keeps the Projects Rolling

Hello blog readers!
I had an opportunity to make an onsite visit to all of our projects this morning.  It’s really amazing how much change is happening in our community this summer!
The Penn Street Project is getting close to substantial completion.  Today and tomorrow, painters will be applying the pavement markings.  As they are painting, traffic will be shifted to accommodate.  Two lanes of traffic will always be maintained.  The stop lights are up and they look great!  They should be operational later next week.

Below is a picture of the Golfview Extension project.  They have made some good progress since my last post.  This connection is going to be very beneficial to our street system!  We are still on target for an October or November opening of this street.

The Dubuque Street Trail is getting close to completion.  Just last night, I saw several families using this path.  There are still a few areas that need to be completed.  The reason you see some sections of missing pavement is because we are waiting for utility work to be completed in those areas.  Once the project is finished, which should be in October, we plan to have a joint ribbon cutting with the county.
Progress continues on Jones Boulevard.   The south end of the project is getting close to complete.  The contractors were finishing up on sidewalks today.  Hopefully grading and seeding will be completed within the next couple of weeks.  They are getting close to being ready to pour concrete for the next phase.  This will be a huge pour, starting at Freedom Pond and continuing north to Zeller.  That should occur within the next two weeks.  The contractors have started to tear up the section of Jones Boulevard from Zeller north to the Methodist Church driveway.  A picture is attached showing this area.  It’s hard to say whether or not this project will be completed this year.  If the weather holds, the work should get done.  However, if we see an early frost, we may be looking at a completion date of 2012.  I will keep you posted.

Unrelated to our infrastructure projects, we are reapplying the pavement markings at the intersection of Penn Street and Kansas Avenue today.  The work started earlier this morning and should be completed well before the evening rush.  This work should make a big difference in the operational efficiency of this intersection.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend and go Hawks!
