Community Library receives Technology Grant Award

The State Library of Iowa is pleased to announce that the North Liberty Community Library has recently received a Library Technology Grant Award of $1,600.00 to purchase two laptop computers dedicated to career development. Patrons 18 years old and older can use these computers to build resumes, conduct job searches, take proctored exams and more.
The State Library of Iowa awarded 63 technology grants to 97 Iowa libraries from funds allocated by the Iowa Legislature during the 2013 session. More than 194 grant applications were submitted representing 255 libraries. Grant awards range from $804.98 for a single library with a single project to $13,499 to a group of nine libraries in one county. The projects must be completed by June 30, 2014.
“All the winning applications made a strong case for how the use of technology would improve the lives of Iowa citizens,” said Marie Harms, state library consultant and grant coordinator. The awards are evenly distributed throughout the state and awarded to all sizes of public libraries and a few academic libraries.
“The applications proved that there is a great need to add, upgrade and replace all sorts of computers and other equipment in the libraries,” said Harms. “By using roughly half of the funds allocated to the State Library, the impact on the equipment, programs and services offered by Iowa libraries will be profound.”
“We are thrilled to be awarded a Technology Grant to help us provide this additional service to our residents who are seeking employment, advancing their careers and working to continue their education,” said Interim Library Director Jennie Garner. The North Liberty Library currently works with staff at IowaWorks to help job seekers in our community.
