Training:

  • Three North Liberty Supervisors attended the Law Enforcement Executive Conference (LECC) forum in Coralville (total training time, 3 officers-72 hours.)
  • The Department held annual spring handgun/DT and rifle training for all officers (17 officers- 12 hours per officer, total 204 hours.).
  • Three officers attended an 8 hour presentation on the Maynard Bank Robbery and Officer Stein Debriefing in Nevada, Iowa.  (3 officers- 24 hours).
  • The officer joining the Johnson County Metro Dive team completed open-water dives in the area. (2 hours)

Public Relations:

  • Top Cop Awards for 2013 were presented to Shine, Olson and Jacobson in Washington DC.
  • May 28th, an officer led a safety presentation on chemicals used for meth labs for the Southslope Cooperative employees.
  • A forum was attended on the racial and ethical disparities involving juveniles with regards to schools, social services and the criminal justice systems.
  • An officer led a safety presentation for second graders from Garner Elementary at the PD.
  • Officers assisted with Air Care landing for a Montessori Children’s Garden daycare presentation.
  • A safety presentation was conducted at Kinderworld Daycare for 40 kids, (2-5 years of age).
  • A supervisor is working with community groups on special event permits and the planning of the events to have the least amount of impact on other community members, notification and public safety concerns.

Equipment:                                                                                                     

  • We received new leather duty belts for all officers.  The funds were used from the vehicle inspection fund, and not from the department’s budget.

Enforcement:

  • Officers assisted the Drug Task Force with search warrants for businesses and residences involved in the illegal distribution of synthetic marijuana.
  • Charges were filed for a subject in connection with residential and vehicle burglaries in his neighborhood.
  • There has been an increase in calls for service due to the weather becoming nicer
  • There has been an increase in crimes against person calls this month which resulted in 7 domestic/assault charges.

Department Admin:

  • Implementation of a revised Department’s mission, vision and value statement (attached).
  • Coordinated with the Salm family and NL Fire Department for the funeral procession of Mayor Salm.
  • Working with computer software, clerk of court and county attorney’s office for the implementation of the Electronic Data Management Software (EDMS) going live June 17th.   This is an electronic filing system for traffic tickets and criminal complaints.
  • Slowly moving items over to a vacant office in City Hall to accommodate our storage needs.
  • Working on ordering and obtaining quotes for the new vehicles that will be replaced in July.
