Salute to Salm parade and more planned for June 13

The City of North Liberty will host a variety of events on Friday, June 13, including a bicycle rodeo at 2 p.m., the community parade at 7 p.m., and a children’s fair following the parade around 8:30 p.m.
Salute to Salm, a free post-parade children’s fair, will be at Penn Meadows Park and feature games for children and public safety and maintenance vehicle displays. Additionally, the North Liberty Optimist will sell food, an officer will show off his DJ skills, and the North Liberty Fire Department will offer water fights in front of Penn School. This event last as long as the prizes hold out, or until dark.
The Salute to Salm child’s fair and display is sponsored by the City of North Liberty, Johnson County Emergency Management, North Liberty Fire Department, Tiffin Fire, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and the Johnson County Bomb Squad.

The parade will begin at the North Liberty Community Center, go east on Cherry Street, turn southeast onto Dubuque Street and turn west onto Zeller Street before ending at North Stewart Street. Line up begins at the Community Center at 6 p.m., and no pre-registration is required for this year’s parade.
Safety is a priority, and we ask parade goers to remain on the curbs during the parade and participants not to throw candy from moving vehicles or floats.
During the parade, the route will be closed to traffic. Dubuque Street traffic can detour to North Juniper Street or North Liberty Road. Highway 965 will remain open for the duration of the event. Detour and no-parking signs will be posted for the route.
Before the parade, a bicycle rodeo is scheduled for Penn Landing, 620 Pacha Parkway, from 2 to 4 p.m. for children entering kindergarten through eighth grades. Pre-registration isn’t required, but we’ll a treat for those who sign up at northlibertyiowa.org/rodeo in advance. The rodeo, produced by the North Liberty Police Department and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, will offer kids a chance to learn bike safety skills, get a free bike inspection from Sugar Bottom Bikes, bike helmets while supplies last, and, of course, have fun.
