Highway 965 construction begins, road closures to follow

The next phase of improvements to Highway 965, which will add safety, recreation and aesthetic features between Penn Street and Pheasant Lane, has begun.
Two crews have started work outside of the highway’s shoulder to add storm sewers. When detour signs and temporary traffic signals are in place, Highway 965 will close between Penn Street and the Dubuque Street intersection. The closure is expected as early as June 30, but may not occur until after Independence Day.
This project is a rebuilding of Highway 965 and will include widening the highway north of Penn Street, flattening and the addition of turn lanes and traffic signals at Scales Bend Road, realignment and an additional turn lane at the Dubuque Street intersection, a sidewalk along the west side and a recreation trail on the east side of Highway 965, resurfacing the northern stretch, as well as adding landscaping and other aesthetic features.
The project is expected to go late into the fall and restart in the spring. Details about staging and detours, as well as project updates, can be found at northlibertyiowa.org/projects.
