Equipment:

  • The equipment was installed in the 2014 Dodge Charger. We also picked up the 2014 Ford Explorer which will replace a 2010 Charger.
  • Ordered three new desktop computers. Two will replace 8-year-old machines and third is for the part-time records assistant.
  • Two ballistic shields were ordered for the patrol cars. These will be carried in the supervisor vehicles.
  • Force on Force equipment was also purchased for upcoming training. The simmunition guns shoot soap projectiles that can be easily washed off. This prevents damage to participants or the buildings we practice in.

Enforcement:

  • The burglaries to motor vehicles and thefts occurring around town were solved. Some of the property was also recovered. Two juveniles and two adults were charged.   We continue to urge residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuable property from unlocked cars.
  • NLPD agreed to be part of the juvenile diversion program for simple misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges. This is a pre-arrest diversion program and the selection for the program will take place at Juvenile Court Services at the recommendation from the officers. Johnson County will be the first in Iowa to try this program.

Department Admin:

  • Interviewing for part time records clerk and background checks.
  • New officer Scott Sammons is going through the three month FTO process.
  • Completed the yearly Federal Asset Forfeiture Compliance program and currently in compliance. This is reporting money we received from criminal prosecution and the property used or derived from the crime was forfeited. We have received money through the Drug Task Force.  We did not spend the money in 2013-14 but will spend the money on non-budgetary equipment.
  • Assist with the interview process for the University Heights Police Chief Selection committee
  • MOU signed for officers to assist working the Iowa Football games.
  • Online police activity is up on running through RAIDS Online. Residents can enter alerts, select what crimes they want to be made aware of and get information on North Liberty officer responses to calls in town.  There are also mobile applications that can be tailored to individual’s use for phones or tablets.
