Trick-or-treating and other Halloween fun

halloween-633
Halloween is already just around the corner (boy, that’s scary), so we’re getting the annually oft-asked question:

When is trick-or-treating?

If you’re not a transplant from central Iowa, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Hampshire or western New York, or haven’t heard of Beggars Night, this may seem like a silly question. North Liberty trick-or-treats on on Halloween, Oct. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. Remember to take an adult, only knock on doors at houses that have their outdoor lights on and be safe.

Halloween Events

The North Liberty Community Library will host haunted tales and ghostly stories with Chad Lewis, co-author of the Road Guide to Haunted Locations book series, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. A paranormal researcher and author for Unexplained Research, Lewis has trekked around the world in search of the paranormal, tracking vampires in Transylvania, searching for the elusive monster in Loch Ness, and pursuing ghosts in Ireland’s castles. Lewis holds a Master’s of Science degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and puts over 18 years of research experience into his presentations. This event is free and open to the public.
An old-fashioned hayrack ride, with snacks, drinks, and campfire if needed, two nights this year: Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11. Rides go from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Colony Pumpkin Patch off of Front Street, just North of Van Allen Elementary. Rides are 20 to 30 minutes long and we’ll show some short Halloween classics and other kid favorites on the big screen, so bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Pre-registration is required in person at the the Community Center.
The Recreation Department hosts pumpkin painting and carving for kids up to 12 years old from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St. Registration is $8 per kid and includes a pumpkin, a treat and all the tools to get the job done.
And the ever-popular annual Haunted Happenings, hosted by the Recreation Department and the North Liberty Optimists Club, will be at the Community Center, 520 W Cherry St., on Thursday, Oct. 23 and Friday, Oct. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event costs $5 per participant at the door, no pre-registration required, and offers a tunnel, mazes, carnival games and fun! Come in costume and have a great night!
Also, the North Liberty Fire Department invites trick-or-treaters to stop by the fire station, 25 W. Cherry St., for trick-or-treating fun on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. to enjoy refreshments, cookies, candy and to check out its new fire engine.
