Photo-awcity

Get those cameras out! Everyone is encouraged to take photos throughout the community and submit their favorite five into our contest! Photo submission and registration required by  Nov 1. Entries will be posted at the NLRC and judged by Recreation Staff. Winner to receive a $25 gift certificate to the NLRC and photo will be published in an upcoming brochure.

North Liberty Diners’ Club

The North Liberty Diners’ Club is ready for another session. We will depart in a van from the NLRC. Sign up for the three month session to receive a members-only polo shirt and a three month gold or silver pass to burn off those extra calories (October-December only). Must attend two of three dates or pay the difference of discounted membership.  Notes and opinions will be featured monthly in the North Liberty Leader, the Solon Economists and on NLRC’s Facebook page.  Meal price is not included.  Choice of restaurant may be changed by NL Staff.

North Liberty Farmers’ Market

The North Liberty Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the North Liberty Recreation Department, is an open-air market held on the north side parking lot of the NLRC. The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items that are grown or made by themselves. The offering for sale of any item acquired from others, either for resale or on consignment is not permitted. The market is limited to individuals only; civic, fraternal or religious groups will not be permitted to sell. Sellers may have their growing conditions inspected by a Market Master throughout the summer.
Session: May 9-October 24
Days/Times: Sundays; 1-4PM
Fee: One Stall Vendor: $5 per day pass or $100 for single stall season pass
Two Stall Vendor: $10 per day pass or $175 for double stall season pass

10 Day Vendor Pass: $50 per each (10) day pass

Community Gardens

Garden plots will be created at the Meade Barn Property, East of Penn Meadows Sports Complex and offered for the first time on a first come, first serve basis. Plot size will be 10 x 30 ft. A gravity tank or hydrant will be available for water. Individuals will need to bring a bucket to transport water to plot. No hose hook-ups will be allowed. Plots must be cleared by October 1.

Session: May 3-October 1
Registration: In-person starting on Thursday, April 1 at the NLRC. Plot number will be assigned after registration, payment and lease agreement are completed.
Location: Meade Barn Property, East of Penn Meadows Sports Complex off of Penn Street
Fee per plot: Residents $45, Non-res $50.

NL Fun Run & Walk

It’s at Liberty Centre again. Plus, there’s the route for kids. All ages and ability levels welcome. Hosted by the North Liberty Committee of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. Time: Check in and same day registration at 8:15AM, kid run at 9AM then the 5k starts promptly at 9:15AM.
Location: Liberty Centre, 650 W. Cherry Street. Registration and Start line.
Fee: $10 for registration before September 10. (Includes one T-shirt) Otherwise, register day-of event for $15.
(T-shirt not guaranteed for day-of registrants.) Children under 12 are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Dog Swim

Enjoy some quality time with your best “furry” friend at the pool! We are again opening the pool for you to bring your dog. Please one dog per person & have proof of current vaccinations when you register.
Ages: Pet owners who are 16 years and older

Time: 12-5PM
Early Registration $5 per dog; Pay at the Door $7 per dog.

Family Fridays

Families will be able to swim at a reduced price. Standard adult supervision rules apply.
Session: September 3-December 17

Fee: $10 per family (maximum of four per family, every additional person $2 each)

After School Swims

Students 10- 18 are encouraged to spend their early outs at the pool. Come swim at a reduced price.
Ages: 10-18
Session: September 6-December 30
Days/Times: Wednesdays and Thursdays
Time: 1-4PM
Fee: $2 per student

School Break Open Swim

Come enjoy the pool for extended hours during your breaks from school. During the week of November 22 and December 20 the pool will be open for extended open swim hours!

Day/Time: M-F; Nov 22-24 & Dec 20-23; 12-5PM

Geo-caching

Use the GPS to navigate your way to four landmarks located in our city parks. Record what you find and report back to the NLRC to win a prize. Coordinates and instructions will be given when you come in to pick up the GPS unit. This is a great opportunity to teach a new skill to young people, especially scout groups.
Ages: 12 years & up
Session: August-November
Rental Times: Monday-Friday; 6AM-2:30PM
Fee: $5 per rental
Deposit: Identification and refundable $100 check or credit card will be held until GPS unit is returned undamaged.

John Deere Waterloo Production Facility Tour

Come join us on this day-trip to see the assembly of 95- to 425-horsepower tractors in a state-of-the-art production facility. Although cameras will be allowed in some parts of the facility, they will not be allowed on the assembly line tour.  Closed-toed shoes must be worn. We will stop at the nearby Junies restaurant for lunch following the tour.  Registrants must bring their own money for food.

Time: Depart NLRC at 8:30 AM and return around 3 PM

Pumpkin Painting/Carving

Come to the NLRC and enjoy painting or carving a pumpkin, just in time for the Halloween season. Kids will get to pick out their own pumpkin. All materials needed to paint/carve pumpkins will be supplied. Treats included.

Celebration Belle Fall Foliage Cruise

This four hour cruise will depart from Dubuque and take you down the Mighty Mississippi. All cruises include snack, main course and a dessert. Our NL van or charter bus (if numbers warrant) will depart from the NLRC at 8:30AM and arrive back around 5PM. Cost includes round trip ticket along with food and entertainment. Riverboat is air-conditioned.
Ages: All ages welcome

Fee: Resident $70, Non-res $75 (Residents include both NL and CV)

Moonlight Hayrack Ride & Movie

Join us for an old fashioned hayrack ride for all ages! This year our ride will take place at the Colony Farm off of S. Front Street, just North of Van Allen Elementary School. We will provide snacks, hot cocoa, warm cider with a crackling campfire to keep you toasty. Rides are approximately 20-30 minutes long. This is not a haunted hayrack ride and it is intended for all ages. Please bring your own blankets and lawn chairs. Pre-registration is required!
Ages: All ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Date: Friday, October 15. Rain date is Sat., October 16.
Time: Hayrack Rides from 6-8PM; Monster House Movie from 8-9:30PM
Fee: $3 per person, $10 per family of 4

Haunted Happenings

The Recreation Center gets spooky! Tunnel, mazes, carnival games and fun! Come in costume and have a frightful time. Snacks, drinks and candy supplied by NL Optimist Club & North Liberty Recreation Department.
Ages: All ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Dates: Thursday & Friday, October 28 & 29
Time: 6:30-8PM
Fee: $2 per participant. Pay at the door; no registration required.

BINGO Night

B-I-N-G-O!  Come test your luck in our second annual bingo night.  Eight games of standard bingo along with five four corner and three blackout games will be played.  Prizes will include free individual monthly memberships for the pool and weight area as well as gift certificates to the NLRC.

Breakfast with Santa

Santa will be waiting for the kids to enjoy dry cereal, donut holes, juice, crafts and a picture with Santa. Kids can sit on Santa’s lap so remember to bring your camera for a pictures. Ages: Infants-3rd grade (must be accompanied by an adult)

Senior Citizen Holiday Shopping & Tannenbaum Forest

Complete your holiday shopping at the Williamsburg Mall and the Amana Colonies. Rec. staff will take you for a day of shopping and sight-seeing. All food, entertainment, gifts and shopping will be at each individual’s cost. Stop by the Tannenbaum Forest for a chance to see a live Christmas tree forest and a beautiful hand crafted nativity scene. Ages: 55 yrs & older

Time: Leave NLRCr at 8:30AM leave, Williamsburg Mall: 9-11:30AM;, Lunch at Amana Colonies 12(Noon)-1PM, Amana Shopping/sight-seeing from 1-3:30PM and return to NLRC at approx. 4PM

Santa Calls Night

Santa Calls Night is a special night for all kids. Santa will call your child to find out his/her wishes for Christmas and just how good they were this year. This is the one and only chance where Santa will call your house, don’t miss this opportunity! Please pick up, complete and return a registration form to the NLRC. PO Box 77, North Liberty, IA 52317.
