Outdoor & Nature Education (O.N.E.) Packs

Exploring the outdoors continues! Ten backpacks are available to get children/families involved in the outdoors. Supported by the Iowa DNR Resource Enhancement and Protection Conservation Education Program, the packs are filled with fun & educational activities. Themes include: Birds, Animals of Iowa, Trees, Insects, Outdoor Skills, Aquatic Habitats, Creatures of the Night, Wildflowers & Prairies, Rocks & Minerals, and the Wild Turkey.

Packs checkout forms must be completed and a credit card number put on file to cover any lost or broken items. Packs can be checked out for two weeks at a time.

Photo-Awcity

Get the cameras out! Everyone is encouraged to take photos throughout the community and submit their favorite five into our contest! Photo submission and registration required by June 30. Entries are posted at the NLRC and judged on July 1. Winner to receive a $25 gift certificate to the North Liberty Recreation Center and photo will be featured in an upcoming brochure. Doggie Plunge

Bring your dog for some fun in the sun/water at the 5th Annual Doggie Plunge! One dog per person and provide proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations the day of the event. Individuals
are not allowed o be deeper than 2 feet in the water due to no chemical treatments for the dog’s safety. If dogs are unable to “play nice” they may be asked to leave without refund.

Pet owners 16 years and older are welcome (children 15 years and under are not allowed within the gated area due to some pets not being good with kids).
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 7
Early registration $10 per dog; Day of event $15 per dog.

Community Gardens

Plots, at the Meade Barn Property, East of Penn Meadows Sports Complex, are available in North Liberty on a first-come, first serve basis. The plots are 10 by 30 feet, and a hydrant and tool shed are available. Planting begins in late spring and plots are cleared by Nov. 1.

Registration is in person at the Community Center only, and 2013 plot holders can register beginning Friday, April 4, at 6 a.m., new plot holders can register starting on Friday, April 11, at 6 a.m. A plot number will be assigned after registration, payment and lease agreement are completed.

Fee per plot: Residents $30, Non-res $35.

Senior Dining

Senior citizens, are you looking for a new social outlet, a reasonable meal and locale to make friends? Join other North Liberty senior citizens for an hour of social activity at 11 a.m., followed by a meal from the Iowa City Senior Center at noon. Meals are $5 each and need to be reserved by calling the North Liberty Recreation Center (319) 626-5716 by 4:30 p.m. the Thursday prior to each dining date. See the calendar above for dates.

Submit an event

This service is subject to the policies below.











  1. Members of the public and representatives of local non-profit organizations may use the City of North Liberty’s community calendar free of charge for the purpose the promotion of any non-commercial event in North Liberty. The communications department reserves the right to omit an event that does not meet the intent of this policy.
  2. Information to be posted on the Community Calendar should be submitted to the Communication Department by completing the form provided on the northlibertyiowa.org website.
  3. The City of North Liberty reserves the right to edit materials to be posted for length, formatting and content.
  4. Events should be submitted no later than one week prior to any timely event or promotion. Telecommunications Department staff shall use their best efforts to post Bulletin Board announcements within two business days of receipt.
