Project Open House 2018

March 7 , 4:30 pm6:00 pm

This year, North Liberty will make major improvements to key infrastructure, including Ranshaw Way (Highway 965). Once completed, these infrastructure upgrades will increase transportation capacity, add pedestrian connectivity, provide recreational amenities and replace aging infrastructure in our growing community.

To learn more about these projects, the public is invited to an open house on March 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m at the North Liberty Community Library. At the open house, residents can visit with project engineers and city staff about planned infrastructure updates. In addition to North Liberty-led projects, representatives from the City of Coralville and the Iowa Department of Transportation will be on hand to discuss projects they’re involved in that will affect North Liberty.

The highlighted projects include:

Ranshaw Way (Highway 965): Improvements include widening to five lanes, the addition of an eight-foot trail and a sidewalk, as well as traffic signal and storm water management upgrades from Penn Street to Zeller Street.

Kansas Avenue: Improvements from St. Andrews Drive to Forevergreen Road including paving, installing a roundabout at the intersection with St. Andrews Drive, improved storm water management and a sidewalk.

Front Street: Improvements from Cherry Street to Zeller Street include reconstructing the rural roadway to an urban roadway that matches Front Street to the south, new sidewalks and underground utilities, including power lines. This is the first project paid for by the state Road Use Tax increase, which the city will reinvest in older streets in North Liberty.

Paved Trail Network: In addition to adding a trail segment along Ranshaw Way, three other priority paved trail segments will be added to our network this summer: a critical connection along Penn Street from Kansas Avenue to the existing trail at Alexander Way, a connection along Alexander Way, and a segment along Scales Bend Road.

Coral Ridge Avenue/Forevergreen Road: This project will include the widening to four lanes, plus dedicated turn lanes, of from Oakdale Boulevard to Forevergreen Road, a turn lane for eastbound Forevergreen traffic turning south on to Coral Ridge Avenue, as well as signal and storm water improvements. This project is being led by the City of Coralville.

Forevergreen Road/Interstate 380: A five-lane overpass, with pedestrian accommodations, and interchange with I-380 is being added, with completion expected in 2019. In addition, Forevergreen Road will be paved with three lanes from the interchange to Covered Bridge Road (paving from Covered Bridge Road to Jones Boulevard is planned for 2019). This project is being led by the Iowa Department of Transportation.
