The City of North Liberty is governed by a mayor and five-member city council. There are a variety of appointed boards and commissions that review department reports, planning requests, library policy and park updates. City councilors are elected for a four-year term. Commissioners and board members are typically appointed for three-year terms. Boards review reports and proposals in order to make recommendations to the city council. The city administrator operates the daily business of the city and reports to the city council.

North Liberty has six voting precincts. More information about precincts, elections, results and voting locations can be found at the Johnson County Auditor’s website.

The City of North Liberty is subject to the State of Iowa’s open records and open meetings laws. Meeting notices are posted at 25 W Cherry Street at least 24 hours in advance (they can also be found on the related council, board or commission’s page on this website). Meetings are open to the public and are shown live online and on North Liberty Television, Mediacom channel 5 and South Slope channel 268, in North Liberty.

Many records are subject to the State of Iowa’s open records laws. Our full policy, including the city’s records request form, is available here.
