WATER SAFETY AID
Looking for a great job this summer?
The North Liberty Aquatic Center will be expanding its learn-to-swim program
this summer and will need swim lesson aides. The WSA class certifies
participants to assist Water Safety Instructors in teaching lessons children
from ages 4 years and older in all levels of swimming. Once students have
successfully completed the course they will be eligible to apply for a position
with NLAC for the summer. In order to enroll in this course participants must be
14 years old, have completed level IV of the learn-to-swim program and be able
to swim for ten continuous minutes using front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke and
breaststroke.
LIFEGUARDING
- A Job So HOT- It’s cool!
It’s a job so hot it’s cool! Yep, that’s lifeguarding. Not
only does this course teach valuable safety and life saving skills it provides a
certification that is in high demand throughout the area. This lifeguarding
course teaches personal safety, rescues of distressed swimmers, spinal injury
management, reacting to emergency situations and emergency action planning. This
course also includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid
certification. Interested students should enroll early - classes fill up fast!
Step 1: Pre-Course Testing
In order to take a Lifeguard course you must first pass a Pre-Course Test
which consists of:
1) A 500 yard continuous swim using front crawl and
breaststroke;
2) Swimming 20 yards, surface diving to 10 feet, retrieving a
10 pound diving brick and returning to the starting point with both hands on the
brick and face out of the water. Participants must attend one of the pre-test
dates below:
Step 2: Lifeguard Course
To successfully complete this course, candidates must be 15 years old by the
last day of class, pass all written tests & quizzes by 80%, complete all
physical skills & practical tests and demonstrate a maturity level compatible
with that
required of a lifeguard. Participants must attend all class dates in the
session.
