City Hall Closed Wednesday, April 24, for Move

City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, so staff can move from the current, leased offices to the new, permanent building.

The final day of operations at 3 Quail Creek Center will be Tuesday, April 23.

City Hall will reopen at 360 N. Main St. at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 25.

A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Training:

  • Bomb squad, dive team, canine, and SERT training was attended by the members this month (48 hours)
  • Jacob Minick completed approximately 600 hours of ILEA training and graduated as a certified officer.
  • NLPD hosted Taser training for instructors around the state. Three of our members attended (48 hours)

Public Relations:

  • Officers spent time in the neighborhoods for the National Night Out. Four block parties reported activities prior and we made it a point to be there for their event.
  • Officers conducted safety drills with teachers and staff at Heritage Christian School, North Central Junior High School and Liberty High.
  • Updated our emergency contact list for all schools and administrators prior to school starting
  • For the first week of school, Officers did extra patrol at pedestrian crossings, bus stops and at the schools.
  • Officer attended the Stork Storytime Expo with other safety seat technicians. A total of 7 child seats were conducted this month.
  • Contacted by Liberty to hire off-duty officers to work at their football games this fall. Liberty will reimburse the City for their time.
  • Officers worked the University of Iowa home football game. The University will reimburse the City for their time.
  • Received the 14th ranking of the Safest Cities in Iowa with a population of 10,000 or more, number of officers, and the use of the 2018 Violent Crime reporting numbers from BackgruondChecks.org

Equipment:

  • Received our new duty weapons. We went with a 9mm Glock pistol and will qualify next month.
  • Three new desktop computers were set up in the building for officers to use. These machines will be transported to the new building when we move.

Enforcement:

  • Officers spent time enforcing traffic and speeding on a joint project around town.

Department Admin:

  • Signed up to voluntarily submit our use of force incidents to the Federal Government for monthly tracking. This is only incidents that result in a weapon being discharged at an individual, serious injury or a death of an individual and serious injury or death to an officer.
  • Continue to work on the furniture selection and design for the new police department.
  • Working on the purchasing and needs for phones, computers and TV’s for the new PD.
  • A sergeant is working on the design and equipment needs for the weight room.
  • Working on a gun safe reimbursement program for officers to safety secure their firearms at home through a payroll deduction.
