Time to Renew Your Pet Tags for 2021

It’s time to purchase pet tags for the new year. Pet licenses, required of all cats and dogs four months of age or older and living in North Liberty, run on a calendar year, Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, and need to be renewed by Jan. 31 each year. Applications are available online at northlibertyiowa.org/petlicense or at City Hall, 3 Quail Creek Circle.

Licensing your pet with the City of North Liberty provides a safeguard for you in the event your pet goes missing. City staff uses this information as a tool to connect found pets back to their owners. You will receive a metallic tag with your license number on it, which should be attached to the animal’s collar.

Licensing costs $2 per year per spayed or neutered pet. Pets that are not spayed or neutered pets are $25 per year.

Remember that dogs and cats must be kept on their owners’ property or on a leash at all times. Pets found at large will be impounded.

Owners should also clean up after their pets. Pet droppings can be a health hazard especially in areas where children play. Pet droppings can also be washed into the storm water system contaminating streams and rivers. When walking your pet in the park, please use the pet waste stations.
