City Hall Closed Wednesday, April 24, for Move

City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, so staff can move from the current, leased offices to the new, permanent building.

The final day of operations at 3 Quail Creek Center will be Tuesday, April 23.

City Hall will reopen at 360 N. Main St. at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 25.

A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

This week we will have Pizza Ranch catering (this almost always means fried chicken for an entrée)! We will also have the Visiting Nurse Association with us to do free blood pressure checks and after lunch we will have a presentation about Solon Senior Advocates from Sandy Hanson and her associates. Registration for lunch just $5 and is required for all who attend. Participants must register before noon on Thursday, May 11th. Call the Rec Center to register (319)626-5716 or go online to your RecDesk Account and register yourself.

Centennial Park 1565 St. Andrews Drive, North Liberty 

Everyone loves to see a cool truck! Meet the trucks and drivers and others that keep the city going at this showcase of public works vehicles in Centennial Park. Come see parks, streets, sewer, and drinking water vehicles, first responders, Hawkeye Football’s equipment tractor, and the Iowa History 101 mobile museum! South Slope Cooperative Communications and Centro, Inc., will have games and giveaways! Event is for all ages; children must be accompanied by an adult. Portable restrooms will be available onsite. 

UoI PanAmerica Steel Band

North Liberty Community Center – Gym 

Join us as we welcome The University of Iowa’s PanAmerican Steel Band for this free performance. The University of Iowa’s PanAmerican Steel Band is perhaps the most recognized percussion group on campus and perform regularly throughout Iowa and the Midwest through the UI Arts Share program. Their music ranges from folk and popular styles to the most challenging new music for pans by composers such as Ray Holman, Andy Narell and others. This event will be held on the Recreation side of the North Liberty Community Center in the gym. 

Plant Sale and Flea Market

Johnson County Fairgrounds – Buildings B & C 

Gardening enthusiasts call your friends to let them know the Johnson County Master Gardeners (JCMG) will host its 14th annual Plant Sale & Flea Market at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in buildings B and C! Shoppers will find a wide range of perennial flowers, vegetables and herbs, shrubs and woody plants as well as the Flea Market items. Shoppers may also select unique gifts at the Butterfly House Silent Auction.  The Flea Market has a generous supply of items made available through estate donations. Find previously-owned garden tools, plant containers, equipment, yard art, books, and other items!

Adults Who Read… expands on traditional adult book clubs by introducing readers to middle age and YA books. In May, we’ll be reading The Secret Garden on 81st Street: A Modern Retelling of the Secret Garden by Ivy Noelle Weir. A few copies will be available at the library for check out!
