Unlocking Brain Fitness: KEYS to Dementia Prevention

Iowa City Senior Center – Room 302
Johnson County Public Health KEYS is a 10-week course on risk factors and preventive steps you can take to lower your risk of cognitive impairment and related dementias. Each week introduces a different “Key” topic: Eat Well, Get Moving, Be Social, Hear Well, Stay Sharp, Sleep Enough, Control Chronic Disease, Build Stress Resilience, Use Right Medications, and Promote Health. In addition to the weekly classes, this program also includes one-on-one meetings with a University of Iowa student health coach to set and track your own individual health goals to plan for continued success after the ten weeks. 55+ Connections: Friday Lunch

Hard to believe it’s already almost March, but here we are! For the first Friday of the month Hy-Vee is expected to bring beef and noodles, potatoes, and salad (but all meals are subject to change). After lunch we’ll have a few rounds of bingo, which is free to play with the chance to win small prizes! Registration for lunch is just $5 and is required for all who attend. For those of you who register for a month at a time, don’t forget to get registered for the new month! Participants must register before noon on Thursday, February 29th. The Senior Center’s Spring 2024 Gallery Walk exhibition is Humor, Mystery, Dreams, Nature, Conversations, Passion. Artist Shari Davis is generously donating 100% of her sales proceeds to the Iowa City Senior Center, “with thanks to ICSC for providing so many of us a place to paint and memories of our teacher, Jim Ochs, who generously shared his knowledge and friendship.”

CLUB 24 is a program for adults to socialize over University of Iowa Athletics.
Patrons can sign up online, over the phone (319-626-5716), or in person at the Community Center. Patrons must reserve their spot by the proceeding Friday (February 29th) each week.
This week we’ll be watching: a replay of the Iowa Ohio State Women’s Basketball game.
Patrons will pay $6 cash day of the program unless they sign up online. Online registration you must pay at checkout. The cost will cover cinnamon rolls from Bluebird Café. Coffee will be provided for participants also.

Join us for a new weekly social gathering that will feature rotating activities and friendly conversation – board games, puzzles, art, book discussions, and more!
This week we’ll be playing card games and board games! We’ll have games ready to go at the library, but feel free to bring your own along as well! No registration required.
