Indoor pool closed

Our indoor pool is, unfortunately closed until further notice. Last night, a motor failed and will need to be replaced. We hope to have a timeline for reopening later in the week of May 13.

City Hall Reopened at 360 N Main St.

City Hall has moved from its previous, leased offices into the new, permanent building at 360 N. Main St. at 7 a.m.

The public can accesses the same services at the new location during the same business hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Departments located at the building include Administration, Billing and Finance, Building Inspection, Planning, Community Relations and Human Resources.

A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Do you like coloring sheets? How about GIANT coloring sheets? We’ll have all sorts of markers, crayons, and pencils to work on a collaborative coloring sheet together! We’ll have coffee and snacks and we might play some music to listen to while we color and chat! 

Join us each week for a social gathering full of activities and friendly conversation – board games, puzzles, art, book discussions, and more! No registration required.

It is once again time for our monthly pizza and bingo party! We’ll have a variety of pizzas with different toppings available. Bingo is, as always, free to play with the chance to win small prizes. Registration is $5 and required for all who attend. Participants must register before noon on Thursday, May 2nd. Call the Rec Center to register (319)626-5716 or go online to your RecDesk Account and register yourself. 

Every week we ask for two people to bring dessert. You can sign up to bring dessert when you call the Rec to register each week and if you sign up for dessert, you also get lunch free! Not sure what to bring? Maybe try this recipe someone brought a couple weeks ago: 

Pudding Cake 

Cake ingredients: 

1 package white cake mix 

1 small package instant pudding 

3 eggs 

1 cup club soda 

1 cup oil 

Cake instructions: 

Mix together, bake at 350° F for 30 minutes. 

Frosting ingredients: 

1 ¼ cup milk 

1 small package instant pudding 

8 ounces cool whip 

Frosting instructions: 

Beat milk and pudding. Add cool whip and mix together. Enjoy! (The person who gave us this recipe said her favorite pudding flavor to use is coconut cream.)

Participants will explore personal experiences and perspectives in a respectful environment, fostering skills to tackle complex topics while suspending judgments. Building Inclusive Communities for Seniors

This presentation will share international perspectives (US, Sweden, Japan, and Israel) on how policies to provide housing and care to older adults are arranged based on cultural values and the various roles of government, civil society, and the private market.
