Let Love Fly June 8 in North Liberty’s Centennial Park
This Saturday, June 8, giant kites will soar above North Liberty’s Centennial Park (1565 St Andrews Dr) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come for awe-inspiring views, and information, activities and giveaways from LGBTQ organizations, affirming community groups and sponsors for an all-ages community celebration of love.
All activities are free, and a complete list of programming can be found at northlibertyiowa.org/cityslate. Attendees can create a button with their preferred pronouns, snag a Let Love Fly wristband and Pride-themed temporary tattoos, build a kite, create a personalized wax hand, visit with LGBTQ influencer and NBC’s Deal or No Deal Island competitor Alyssa Klinzing about her coming out journey, and learn from and connect with LGBTQ-affirming community organizations and City of North Liberty departments.
“It’s a Matter of Pride North Liberty” yard signs will also be distributed for free, as supplies last, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by Mayor Hoffman signing a proclamation declaring June as Pride month in the City of North Liberty.
Food trucks will be on-site with food to purchase and picnics, lawn chairs, blankets and personal kites are encouraged.
This is the third year the City of North Liberty has hosted Let Love Fly. The event is part of the City Slate, a yearlong schedule of free community events made possible by A2Z Heating & Plumbing, Centro, Inc, Collins Community Credit Union, The Eastern Iowa Airport – CID, Hills Bank, MidWestOne Bank, South Slope Cooperative Communications, University of Iowa Health Care, Urban Acres Real Estate and Veridian Credit Union.
