North Liberty Library hosts Youth Impact Initiative
Being a kid in any era is hard, but today’s youth face a dynamic and changing world of intimidating unknowns. The North Liberty Library is bringing back a community partnership initiative to help youth confidently navigate our world and feel safe.
“I saw knowledge and support my daughter and other kids in North Liberty needed as they grew up,” said resident Anne Aguirre, who helped create the initiative. “I wanted to find a way to work with community members, public safety and the city’s other public servants to provide the youth of our community the information they need to be safe and successful.”
The Youth Impact initiative aims to give teens in 6th to 12th grade critical tools and information to be engaged, contributing members of their community. Topics include budgeting, finances (taxes, credit, and more), mental health & QPR, self-defense, cooking skills & kitchen safety, sewing & mending, and CPR & first aid. Participants will complete the program with a wealth of life skills, and a certificate of completion.
The program will be held at the North Liberty Library, 520 W Cherry St., every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting Oct. 6, 2024.
