Residents Encouraged to Dispose of Old Medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The North Liberty Police Department will collect old medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26, 2024, at police station, 340 N. Main St.

Proper disposal of prescription drugs helps keep them out of landfills and helps prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a twice-a-year event offering an opportunity to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications safely and anonymously. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs while educating the public about the potential for the dangerous misuse of opioid pain relievers and other drugs.

As part of the national Prescription Drug Take Back program, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration also allows the collection of vaping devices and e-cigarettes from individuals so long as batteries are first removed from the devices.
