One Small Step Program

In the United States, we are increasingly divided—separated from one another to the point where discussing important issues has become a challenge, and feeling more alone despite countless technological means that were supposed to connect us.

One Small Step, a groundbreaking project from StoryCorps, aims to bridge these divides by bringing people together to talk across political lines.  North Liberty is proud to be one of a select few locations across the country dedicated to integrating this effort into public libraries.  Our first effort is an active display, featuring responses to One Small Step questions from our community.  Through it, we hope to show how our hopes, dreams, and experiences connect us, making us more alike than different.  A physical display is available in the library in the lounge.  It is mirrored online at northlibertylibrary.org/oss .  Responses will be displayed both in-person and online regardless of where you submit an answer to the question.

By participating, you are playing a crucial role in shaping how this initiative could be implemented in hundreds of other communities in the near future. Your involvement and feedback are invaluable to us, and we are deeply grateful for your time and consideration in answering this month’s question. Thank you for being part of this important journey toward understanding and unity. We look forward to your continued participation and invite you to join us again next month for a new question!

Successful Aging in Johnson County Survey – Updated Link

The Johnson County Livable Community for Successful Aging Policy Board (JCLC), appointed by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, is launching a survey aimed at understanding the experiences and perceptions of residents aged 45 and older regarding livability in Johnson County.

With approximately 22% of Johnson County residents in this age group, the survey seeks to gather insights on essential elements that contribute to a livable community. A livable community is one where everyone can age successfully, providing safe, walkable streets, age-friendly housing, accessible transportation options, and opportunities for all residents to engage in community life.

The survey will cover critical topics related to livability and is designed to capture the voices of county residents.

Responses will be used to inform strategic planning efforts and guide recommendations for improving livability in Johnson County.

The survey will begin in early December with a gradual rollout in rural communities, followed by expansion into the metropolitan area of Johnson County.  All Johnson County residents aged 45 and older are encouraged to participate.

Participants can complete the survey online at this updated link or request a paper survey by calling (319) 335-1664.
