55+ Connections: Tuesday Gathering
Tuesday, January 14
10:30 AM
North Liberty Library – Meeting Room CD
It’s time for a cozy craft! This week we’ll be making “ice block coasters” using epoxy. If you have small items you would like to seal in the coaster, such as photograph, dried flower, or other flat memorabilia, feel free to bring it along. Otherwise, we’ll have plenty of items at the library to use.
Join us each week for a social gathering full of activities and friendly conversation – board games, crafts, puzzles, book discussions, and more! No registration required. You can choose which events you would like to attend and are not obligated to go weeks when the activity is not of interest to you.
There’s a Story in Every Quilt
Wednesday, January 15
2 – 3 PM
Iowa City Senior Center – Assembly Room
If we’re lucky, quilts wrap us in warmth throughout our lives. They also tell our stories and memorialize milestones. Textile Artist, Juli Seydell Johnson, will share her quilting story which started as a self challenge to make a quilt for the Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp Quilt Auction in the early 1990s. She learned to make that first quilt with help from her Grandmother. Since then her pieces have evolved from traditional quilts to storytelling quilts that reflect important themes from Juli’s life and career. The presentation will include a quilt trunk show along with a slide show presentation highlighting the inspiration and process behind many of her pieces.
