Minutes

Present:  Shelly Simpson, Brian Motley, Tim Hamer, Guy Goldsmith, Richard Grugin, Shannon Greene, Nick Arnold, Kevin Smith, Jeremy Parrish, Donglin Chai

  1. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve March 6, 2025 minutes: Parrish; Second: Chai. Approved via unanimous consent.

 

  1. Reports

Parks Report – Guy Goldsmith

  • Goldsmith referenced his submitted written report. Highlights below:
  • Old town clock has been refurbished and fitted with a video screen for display outside City Hall
  • Spring readiness and landscaping tasks are underway
  • Koser Park work on ballfield complete – LHS students will complete dugout covers
  • Liberty Centre pond repairs are complete and trout stocked
  • Youth sports fields have been prepped for spring season
  • City received the Tree City USA designation for 29th year
  • Hiring seasonal staff is underway
  • Centennial Park is still on track to open in September
  • There was some conversation regarding trail projects and cleanliness, waste disposal near intakes for tunnels

Recreation/Pool Report—Shelly Simpson

  • Simpson referenced her written report. Highlights below:
  • Spring break camp was held with about 20 kids attending all-day camp
  • Registrations for summer camps and programs took place in March – revenue is reflected in the report
  • Staff continue to explore programming, including programs for seniors, youth, and families.
  • Motley stated that staff attended a recent conference in Coralville for parks and recreation professionals.
  • Open house was held at the rec center and library with about 300 members of the community attending. Several purchased annual passes during the event. So far, no complaints have been made about the recent rate changes for membership.
  • Staff has also created a punch card for purchase for those not wishing to purchase a membership
  1. Questions, Concerns, Updates
  • Chai stated she attended the open house and was impressed with turnout
  • Arnold asked whether revenue from the summer camp program was on par with forecast. Simpson stated it was and that registration is currently only open for returning campers.
  • Motley pointed out that the rec center is one of only three similar summer programs and expansion is a possibility in the future.
