Upcoming City Slate Events

Save the Dates

North Liberty’s City Slate is a collection of our largest special events planned by city staff. Every event on the slate is free to attend, and our team has over 40 events in store for you in 2022. Upcoming events will be announced in waves throughout the year. Full details for each event will be linked below in the weeks leading up to each program.

May through October: Fairy Trail
Visit the doors of the fairies and trolls who have made trees along our recreation trail their home.

May 14: Remarkable Rigs
Meet the trucks and drivers that keep the city going at this showcase of public works vehicles in Centennial Park.

May 21: Playground Crawl
Spend the afternoon with your household exploring the city’s playgrounds and enjoy special treats and activities at each stop as you make your way around town.

Fridays in June and July: Ranshaw House Concert Series
Bring a picnic, catch up with friends and socialize as a community with live performances from local musicians on the historic house’s front porch.

June 4: Free Fishing Weekend
A morning of free fishing and prizes at Liberty Centre Pond.

June 4: Let Love Fly
Mega kites soar above Centennial Park for a community celebration of love. Come for awe-inspiring views, and information and giveaways from LGBTQ community groups, sponsors and more.

June 9: Free Swimming Lesson
We want everyone to enjoy a fun and safe summer. Get a jumpstart with a free swim lesson from our lifeguards in the outdoor pool. Registration for a 30-minute time slot is free, but registration is required.

June 13 through July 31: Summer Reading Program
Read Beyond the Beaten Path this summer with your community and the library!

June 17, July 29 and Aug. 12: Swimming Storytimes
Come and go as you please during a fun summer outdoor pool storytime by the outdoor pool during a free two-hour swim.

June 24: Freedom Roll
Bring your bikes, blades, wagons, wheelbarrows, wheelchairs and whatever else rolls for a reverse parade followed by a children’s concert with Little Miss Ann.

June 24: Children’s Concert
An outdoor children’s concert with Little Miss Ann. Come early for the Freedom Roll.

June 25: Backyard Campout
A communitywide backyard campout to raise money for our local schools.

July 9: North Liberty Blues & BBQ
North Liberty’s summer tradition is back! Live music, craft beer, barbecue and kids fun in Centennial Park.

July 17: Swimming with Princesses
A magical experience with your favorite island and sea princesses at the outdoor pool. Registration is free, but registration is required. Registration opens June 17.

July 23: Tween Night at the Pool
A private event for rising 8th and 9th graders at the outdoor pool, complete with free pizza, games and a selfie station.

Aug. 20: Summer Sendoff
Send off summer with a bang! Join us in Penn Meadows Park for food trucks, carnival games, live music and a fireworks finale.


Past Events

May 7: Free Comic Book Day
Celebrate the art, artists and stories of comic books on National Comic Book Day with free comic books, photo ops, crafts and a meet and greet with a local artist and caricaturist.

April 9: Shed Hunt
Explore nature as you search for antlers with North Liberty Recreation and TAKO.

April 9: Bunny Clue Trail
Visit twelve fairy gardens around Liberty Centre Pond to locate hidden items in each of the scenes. Find them all to earn a treasure bag of treats, a succulent, and be entered to win one of the miniature sets for your home.

April 2: Kites for Kids Festival
Children and their caregivers are invited to come play at Liberty High School for this family-friendly kite festival to raise awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Receive a free kite and giveaways, get your face painted, and see the AirCare helicopter and a flyover by Green Castle Aero Club.

Jan. 29 through Feb. 27: North Liberty Lights
An illuminated winter display around Liberty Centre Pond.

Feb. 19: Snow Ball
An indoor fake snowball fight with the North Liberty Library, complete with hot cocoa, Dash from the Iowa Heartlanders and story time.

Feb. 5: Ice Fishing
Try your luck catching some pan fish at Liberty Centre Pond with North Liberty Recreation and TAKO.

Jan. 30: Fire & Ice
Beat the Bitter’s free day at Penn Meadows Park.

Jan. 30: Fireworks
North Liberty’s annual winter firework show in Penn Meadows Park.
