The City of North Liberty, Iowa, population 18,299, is seeking to fill the position of Fire Chief. The position was formerly part-time and has been expanded to full-time. Today there are 39 members serving North Liberty with fire response, fire prevention support, emergency medical service, extrication, and hazardous materials abatement. The decision to move to a full-time position was made following a needs study, completed in December 2016. The city, a fast-growing suburb of Iowa City, (MSA 161,170) recognizes the need to increase the professionalism of the department.
North Liberty is a thriving community in the heart of Iowa’s Creative Corridor, located between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. The City has experienced a 37 percent increase in population since 2010. There are more than 200 active businesses in North Liberty including manufacturing, banking and biotechnology industry. The University of Iowa, and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (located just south of North Liberty) employ many professionals and provide leading quality health care services.
The fire department is currently staffed by three part-time administrative officers, paid-on-call officers/fire fighters and volunteers. In 2016, the Department responded to 1,137 incidents, including emergency services provided to two neighboring townships. The Department also provides life-safety building inspections, as well as public education events. Advanced Life Support transport is provided by Johnson County Ambulance Service.
The ideal candidate will possess an Executive Fire Officer Certificate, issued by the National Fire Academy, in addition to experience in an agency with a combination of professional and volunteer staff.
The Chief is an exempt (FLSA) member of the City staff, under the supervision of the City Administrator. City staff works as a team to meet the needs of the community.
The Chief will be a public representative for the Fire Department, and will meet with business, civic, and community members to provide information on the Department and to promote fire safety.

The starting salary for this position is $77,000 to $108,000. Actual salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The City offers a generous benefit package including tuition reimbursement, health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.

The North Liberty Aquatic Center is hiring concession stand cashiers, responsible for prompt, professional, safe, and sanitary operation of the concession stand facility and equipment. Candidates should have the ability to demonstrate basic mathematic and money handling skills while working in a fast paced environment; knowledge in the operation of concession equipment such as cash register, grill, pop machine, ice cream machine, popcorn machine, and the like; good communication skills, honest, dependable, responsible, and a desire to serve the public. Recreation Department – Counselors
Supervise children for City of North Liberty’s Before & After School Programs. Work directly with children in leading games, activities, arts, and crafts. Light cleaning duties are involved as well. Must be able to obtain a chauffeur’s license. Post-offer physical, drug screen and background check required.
Part-time Positions: 10-30 hrs per week.
Work Schedule: Before school: M-F 6:45-8:45am, After School: M-F 2:30-6:00pm. TH 1:30-6:00. Other youth programs as needed. We will work around your schedule!

Work Schedule: The possible hours that we need are Monday-Friday, 11:45 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday 7:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., or 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.. There could also be additional hours for special events and after hour rentals.

Duties: The duties will consist of answering phones, greet patrons, registrations, supervising the facility, answering patron questions and other duties as assigned.
