Since Feb. 4, 2014, the entire state of Iowa has been under a quarantine to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer and infestations of the invasive species have been confirmed in neighboring counties. In October 2015, an emerald ash borer infestation was confirmed in southern Linn County, within 15 miles of North Liberty.
Current information about confirmed infestations, identifying and dealing with the pests, and other information is available from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ dedicated site about the Emerald Ash Borer, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and its dedicated site about the Emerald Ash Borer and other tree pests, and Trees Forever.
