Spring is Here and So is Construction!

Well, congratulations, you did it. You survived another Iowa winter!
With spring here, the contractors are back out on Highway 965. As always, please drive with caution.
As you may have noticed, we’ve had some delays in the project.  However, I am happy to report that tomorrow the traffic signal at Golfview Drive will go into flash mode, meaning that the yellow light will flash. On Thursday, the signal will be fully activated!
The signal at Ashley Court is taking a little longer to install because of the very wet and soft ground in the ditch to the west. In order to install the poles, a large truck needs to drive into the ditch. A combination of fill material and dry weather will speed up the installation process; however, an install date has yet to be determined.
We have received lots of calls about the paint stripping on Highway 965.  The permanent, epoxy paint is scheduled to be applied the first week in April.  Application of the paint requires temperatures of at least 50 degrees.
Some of you may have noticed the extremely bright pedestrian lights along the highway.  Those have since been deactivated.  The manufacturer sent the wrong lenses.  The correct lenses will have a tint to them, allowing for much less illumination.
As you can see, this project has had its challenges.  That is to be expected with a project this large.  The good news is we are almost done!  Thank you for all your patience throughout this process.
One more thing: we have a number of projects going on this summer.  Join us on Thursday of this week, March 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center for a projects open house to learn about what’s happening in North Liberty in 2011!
