Closings happening this week
What a great week out there, folks! Beautiful weather means our crews have been out in full force working on Penn Street, Jones Boulevard and the Penn Meadows parking lot projects.
As you have most certainly noticed, more closures are occurring with our projects. Today, contractors closed Jones Boulevard between Liberty Way and Penn Street (same section that was closed last week). The contractors estimate that the road will be closed for about a month. Motorists are advised to use Cherry Street and Liberty Way as detour routes during this time. Penn Street will remain open, with two lanes of traffic, at all times.
Further down on Jones Boulevard, between St. Andrews Drive and Harvest Street, will close tomorrow for an estimated six to eight weeks. Below this post is a letter that went out to residents who live within 200 feet of Jones Boulevard, and above is a map noting the planned closures. This information should give you a good feel for what’s happening in the area in the next few weeks.
As always, detour routes will be posted, so please watch the signs.
The parking lot and rain gardens project is really shaping up nicely. If you are at a ballgame or using the park for another reason, be sure to take a look. The pervious concrete will be poured next week and the rain garden work will begin shortly. With cooperative weather, this project could be completed in July.
As you can tell, this is going to be a crazy summer in terms of projects in North Liberty. Stay turned to our website and this blog for updates.
Thanks for staying informed!

RE: 2011 Jones Boulevard Reconstruction Project
Dear Resident,
We have begun the utility work on Jones Boulevard as part of the 2011 Jones Boulevard Reconstruction Project. In addition to the utility and storm sewer work, we will widen Jones Boulevard with a concrete surface, install curb and gutter, and put in an 8-foot wide sidewalk on the east side of the road.
In order to complete this project, sections of Jones Boulevard will be closed at times. Horsfield Construction, the project’s contractor, will start on the south, near St. Andrews Drive, and work north to Penn Street. The first closings will be on Jones Boulevard and St. Andrews Drive and are scheduled to begin this week. Of course, like all construction work, this is weather dependent. I have included a map on the backside of this letter that generally explains the road closure schedule for this project.
As the project moves forward, updates will be available on the city’s website at northlibertyiowa.org/projects. You can also find my blog at this location, which is updated regularly with information about all of the projects ongoing within North Liberty. Additionally, we will issues press releases when larger events, such as road closures, are scheduled. If you would like to be included on the city’s press release e-mail distribution list, please send an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject line of “please add me to your distribution list.”
While this project may cause some temporary inconveniences, I am certain the end result will be worth the delays. We appreciate your patience throughout this project.
Take care and travel safely.
Sincerely,
