North Liberty treatment sludge hauled out overnight
August 17, 2011 — Sludge from the North Liberty Wastewater Treatment plant will be hauled out of town this evening and tomorrow morning to a local farm field. Trucks will be moving the biosolid waste as late as 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18 down Forevergreen Road. Residents should not notice noise level variations; however, staff is sending notice so that witnesses are not alarmed by the semi-tanker trucks.
Dave Ramsey, Wastewater Supervisor, states, “We are hauling away approximately 550,000 gallons of sludge, which is the final end product of the treatment process. This is a normal part of plant operations.” The haul is being done overnight in order for the three contracted trucks to assist another area in an emergent situation.
