City Council meeting held in new chamber this evening
August 23, 2011 — The North Liberty City Council meeting will be held this evening at its new facility located at 1 Quail Creek Circle – two doors down from City Hall. The space previously occupied by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church allows for more parking space than the old location at 25 W. Cherry. Also, the fire department can now make use of all the old council chambers. The police department will be able to use the parking spots at old council chambers, too.
New council chambers has been under construction for most of the summer. The audience capacity is very similar to the old space; however speakers have been installed in the ceiling, so even the people in the back of the room have excellent audio. There is also a closed session room, which should be completed in a few weeks. Guests do not have to enter the room right by the council table and the television crew is enclosed in a production room.
Finally, the North Liberty “less paper” paperless initiative has been enacted. All councilors now use iPads for packet distribution, as do commissioners and staff at the table. This replaces the hundreds to thousands of pages that were printed and delivered to boards.
