North Liberty sewer lines to be cleaned Thursday

July 17, 2012 — This Thursday, July 19, the North Liberty streets department will be cleaning debris from the sewers from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Streets superintendent Don Colony says, “We are sending a foam-type bullet or football through the sewers to remove build up. Though this is the first time we are doing this, it will become an annual cleaning.”
People may notice a strong sulfur odor during the cleaning, but it is not dangerous. If residents notice the smell in their homes, they should contact the streets department, as the homeowner may need instructions on internal cleaning of drains and pipes.
