Officer Cody Jacobsen and Officer Travis Clubb were listed as probationary employees and in January completed terms of their probation and were assigned as permanent status employees.
A used vehicle was purchased from a local auto dealer in North Liberty. This vehicle is currently in use for special assignments.
The department received a thank you and cookies from a resident that lives on Front Street for the extra patrol enforcement she had witnessed. Another resident mailed a thank you letter for two officers who assisted her in changing a tire on HWY 965 during one of the negative below zero nights. The officers were able to get her on her way. These citizens went out of their way to make sure the administration was aware of the good deeds they witnessed.
All officers in North Liberty attended MATS (Multi-agency training seminar) for two days during a four week session during the month of January. This training includes CPR recertification, Blood borne pathogens, Haz-Mat, law update by the county attorney’s office, OWI Field sobriety testing, ICCSD emergency response update (ALICE), Sexual Assault Response Team and a Pictometry presentation which is in regards to mapping locations. These training sessions are required for all law enforcement officers in JohnsonCounty.
The Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) invited the police department to meet with North Liberty school administrators for a table top discussion on emergency planning. This event had been planned for months in advance for the in- service district training day. This was completed with the local district administrators and local first responders. Later in the month, ICCSD held a table top discussion on emergency planning for their entire staff district wide. With the assistance of Iowa City Police and Coralville Police, officers were able to assist and discuss emergency planning for Wickham, Van Allen, Garner and Penn Elementary, and North Central Junior High. North Liberty Officers will be receiving additional training in this emergency planning and will be able to host for other schools or local business in the community next month.
