Herky hits the streets of North Liberty to celebrate the return of Herky on Parade

herky-on-paradeThe City of North Liberty, partnering with the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau,UI Athletics Department and the cities of Iowa City and Coralville, are pleased to be part of the second edition of Herky on Parade presented by the University of Iowa Community Credit Union. 83 six-foot Herky statues will be unveiled together and at the same time all over the community on Monday, May 5, at 9:00 a.m.
Each Herky, in the “superman” pose, has been transformed by more than 50 local and regional artists and sponsoring area businesses. Artists and sponsors will participate in the celebration by unveiling the Herky they helped create.
“The community responded to the 2004 parade like no other event we’ve ever produced. There were a lot of families and kids who didn’t want to see the Herkys go away. We’ve been asked when we’re going to bring the Herkys back ever since,” says Josh Schamberger, president of the CVB. “With 2014 being the 10th anniversary of the first Herky on Parade, the timing seemed right.”
Herky on Parade fans are encouraged to share their photos and stay in touch with the different social sites available, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. An official Herky on Parade app will be available May 5 on Google Play and the App Store. The app will list each Herky and his exact location, provide more information about each statue, allow for photo sharing, merchandise purchases, a ranking system, opportunities for winning contests and more.
