Training:

  • An Officer attended a two day training on threat assessment (16 hours).
  • Three officers attended training at ILEA on De-escalating and Conflict resolution (24 hours).
  • An officer attended a week long training session on the installation of child safety seats.  This service will be conducted by appointments, with the officer checking for proper installation. (40 hours).
  • The department meeting was held focusing on evidence procedures, the new electronic management system with the court house, school resource officer responsibilities and law updates.
  • One officer attended a local three day dive training (24 hours).  With these certifications, he can join the Johnson County Dive Team.
  • One Sergeant attended the Tactical Leader/Supervision course in Cedar Rapids (8 hours)
  • One officer attended a local three day driver training (24 hours) to operate the Johnson County Rescue and Recovery vehicle.

Public Relations:

  • Assisted with the Salute to Salm North Liberty parade and child’s fair event in Penn Meadows Park.  Several officers worked the event. One supervisor coordinated the activities and purchased games and give-a-ways for the kids that were present.
  • An NL officer drove in the parade with kids that were selected from each of the elementary schools. The kids were asked to ride along and help pass out candy.
  • NLPD assisted with the Summer Lunch program for two days this month at the NL Rec Center.
  • The PD assisted the City and Iowa Bike Coalition in a bike rodeo at Penn Landing.  Over 70+ kids registered and we had a great turn out.  Sugar Bottom Bikes also performed tune ups on all of the bikes.
  • An officer assisted with Safety Village.  This was a morning program to teach younger children about safety at home, around school, animals, and the roadway.  Multiple daycares and children from North Liberty attended the summer camp.

Equipment:                                                                                                      

  • Safety equipment was purchased (head, face, and neck protection) for upcoming department Force-on-Force training.
  • Equipment and two new patrol vehicles have been ordered to start replacement in July.

Enforcement:

  • The department has received multiple complaints for speed enforcement on W. Zeller Street and S. Dubuque Street.  Extra patrol will continue in these areas.
  • The department has seen an increase in reported domestic abuse incidents this month.  Each of the six reports resulted in arrest made.

Department Admin:

  • A Federal COPS grant was submitted for the hiring of one officer.  Total awarded would be for $125,000 over a three year period, if selected.
  • A law update was attended by a supervisor and then presented to the rest of the officers. These are for law changes that take place July 1st.
  • We have had major engine repairs on three patrol vehicles this month.  Dodge has agreed to take care of the issues under warranty for two of the vehicles and we will be responsible for third.
  • Updated the job description for the office administrator assistant/records staff member in preparation for the part-time position to be added.
  • Working with Tracs and Clerk of Court for the implementation of the electronic filing system for the State of Iowa.  This will be electronic submission of traffic citations and criminal complaints.
