Software error leads to inaccurately low sewer bills
Due to a software error, North Liberty water and wastewater customers were sent inaccurate bills for June. New bills will be sent to customers today. For the average customer, the difference is about $15 to $22.
The software error, discovered by city staff on Monday, caused customers to be billed for only the minimum wastewater use, regardless of actual use. The error occurred when the software vendor failed to correctly input a rate table, which sets parameters on how usage should be billed. City staff has worked with the software vendor to correct the error and will spot check July bills for accuracy.
Limitations of the billing software prevent the difference from being simply rolled into next month’s bills; we apologize for the inconvenience. Customers who have already paid their bills will receive new bills noting the balance owed. Customers who have yet to pay their monthly bills will receive new bills for the total owed. The outstanding balances are due the same date as the previously issued bills: July 20. Customers who take advantage of direct withdrawal will simply have the correct amount debited from their account on the normal day.
Customers with questions about their bills can contact City Hall at (319) 626-5700.
