North Liberty police violate department policy for a second straight year

This November, North Liberty’s police officers will have a short reprieve from the department’s strict no-beards-in-uniform policy. Participating officers will make donations to the annual Domestic Violence Intervention Program toy drive.
The department has a history of supporting the Domestic Violence Intervention Program’s toy drive. Officer Juan Santiago has worked with the DVIP and its toy drive for more than a decade, and members of the department have donated annually to the program’s toy drive. This is the second year the department has eased its policy on facial hair to participate in No Shave November.
The department won’t forgo all shaving (participants are limited to a tidy quarter-inch goatee), and residents are encouraged to compliment the officers’ facial hair.
