Training:
- The full-time Administrative Assistant went to a Public Records presentation in Carlisle for training by the Attorney General’s office on public records. (2 hours)
- One officer attended Patrol Tactics training in Cedar Rapids presented by Caliber Press (8 hours)
- 3 officers attended an online webinar for an Ebola update and first responder precautions. (3 hours).
- Two officers attended an online Sexual Assault Report Writing webinar for better documentation and summation when taking reports (2 hours).
- Two officers attended a week long Field Training Officer (FTO) program in Cedar Rapids. These officers will help train future officers (80 hours).
- The officer on the Dive Team attended monthly training (8 hours)
Public Relations:
- Officers attended the Iowa National Guard Center of Influence day. We currently have two active guard members on our department.
- Venenga attended the North Liberty Business Banquet.
- Officers were assigned quadrants to conduct business checks in order to gather after hour and emergency contact information. Officers will also be providing our contact information to the businesses so they can get ahold of the department when necessary. If the business requests, officers will conduct a security check of their property and note any recommendations to prevent criminal activity on their property.
- Sergeant Regenwether conducted alcohol awareness training at J & A Tap for 13 employees. Topics covered were liquor license requirements and reports, impairment indicators, and security features on identification cards. This will prevent fraudulent documents, over serving patrons and age verification. This training was at the request of the bar owners.
- Officer Sammons attend the Community Garden Event.
- The department is still accepting applications for the Citizen Police Academy. Applications are available online or at the police department.
Equipment:
- The department purchased two new Tasers. One is to replace a 7 year old taser and the other is for the new hire. These tasers will be bright yellow instead of the black Tasers.
- A new radio was purchased from Racom for the new hire position.
- The annual department ammunition order was placed. Ammunition will arrive as it becomes available.
- All radar units were calibrated for court purposes by Midwest Radar. This is completed annually to verify speeds and readings on the equipment.
Enforcement:
- Three reports were taken for thefts from motor vehicles. They came in just before Thanksgiving from the areas of Alydar Dr. and Cameron Way.
- As a courtesy notice, snow warning notices were distributed to cars parked on the street after the first snow fall. The warnings advise the drivers of the snow emergency and automatically going into effect with 2 inches or more snow on the road.
Department Admin:
- The department accepted applications for the COPS funded position. Testing was held at the end of the month. The department received 31 applications and had 20 candidates show up for the physical and post-test. Interviews and background checks will begin next month.
- Nominations for the Officer of the Year were accepted and will be awarded next month at the Holiday party.
- Officers participated in No Shave November which allowed them to grow a ¼ inch goatee. In order to participate, the officers had to donate $30 each to Officer Juan Santiago’s Annual Domestic Violence Intervention Program toy drive.
- Venenga attended the ICCSD Core management team meeting looking at needs and resources that are available for youths and families in the area.
- Attended a Traffic Incident Management (TIM) meeting for first responders, police, street crews, and DOT to help coordinate responses and understand responsibilities with traffic incidents and vehicle crashes.
- The Chief grilled a steak dinner for the shift/rotation that donated the most school supplies. This was an added incentive for a few of the officers and was provided to them before the start of their evening shift.
