North Liberty reminds snowmobilers of routes and rules
Posted on: January 13, 2015

Snowmobiles are allowed between the edge of the sidewalk closest to the roadway and the road along the approved routes from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Following City Council discussion in late November, and warm weather following early snowfalls, the city wants to remind snowmobilers of North Liberty’s routes and rules for snowmobiles.
By ordinance, snowmobiles can be operated between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the approved side of the street between the road and the edge of the sidewalk, or, if there isn’t a sidewalk, within five feet of the road.
Approved routes, depicted in the map above, are along the following streets only:
- Dubuque Street from the south City limit to the intersection with Cherry Street.
- Front Street from Penn Street north to the north City limit.
- Penn Street from the north Penn Meadows parking lot west to Front Street. and from Highway 965 to Kansas Avenue.
- Scales Bend Road, from Highway 965to the northernmost City limit.
- Kansas Avenue from Penn Street south to Forevergreen Road.
- Forevergreen Road from Kansas Avenue west to the west City limit.
- Highway 965 from Penn Street to the northernmost City limit.
- Designated trail through Penn Meadows Park between Dubuque Street and Penn Street.
Additionally, snowmobiles in North Liberty must obey all speed limits and other posted traffic signs and traffic-control devices. The full ordinance, with additional requirements, is available here.
