Library takes services into the community with Pop-Up Library

North-Liberty-Community-Library-logoOn Tuesday, April 14, the North Liberty Community Library will launch a Pop-Up Library program. Through the program, patrons can access basic library services in nontraditional places.
“Taking our services out into the community is a high priority for us,” said Jennie Garner, the library’s director. “It gives more people easier access to the services we offer, and makes our public libraries more public.”
The program will launch with twice-a-month pop-ups at the North Liberty Community Pantry, 85 Jones Blvd in North Liberty, where the pantry’s clients can get library cards, place reservations, check out and return books, movies and other materials. Librarians will be available to offer main-branch technology services.
“We’re looking forward to this additional partnership with library,” said Tina DuBois, the pantry’s executive director. “Many families can’t afford to purchase books for their children or themselves. Having additional access to library books and materials benefits the entire community through having more educated individuals.”
Adult Services Librarian Elaine Hayes, who is leading the initiative, hopes the program can be expanded to include other locations in North Liberty such as assisted living faculties and other places frequented by underserved or less mobile populations.
