Training:
- Officer attended dive training with the Johnson County Dive Team. (8 hours)
- All officers completed Robbery Response training by partnering with Mid West One Bank (2 hours training per officer).
- Two sergeants attended the FTO supervisor training and monitoring in Cedar Rapids (2 for 64 hours).
- Chief attended the Iowa ACTS law update (8 hours)
- Radar/laser instructor course at ILEA was attended by one officer (32 hours)
- Officer attended training with the Bomb squad (8 hours)
- Drug task force member and investigator attended intelligence gathering seminar and available resources from Midwest organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC) at the JECC (2 hours)
- DTF member attended undercover techniques in Des Moines (80 hours)
Public Relations:
- Officer Clubb completed three child seat check-ups for the month.
- An officer attended Safety Village. This is 2 week camp for children to go and learn safety skills.
- Officers stopped at the Free Fishing weekend at Liberty Center.
- Officers attended the Safe Summer Community kick off fair at the Ranshaw house.
- A supervisor completed his yearlong commitment and graduated from the Community Leadership Program (CLP).
- The active intruder response drill program (ALiCE) was taught at Southslope’s request to their employees.
- Officer’s presented a safety demonstration at Montessori School.
- Officer participated in the pre-planning for the restorative justice committee for future mediation between the police and a juvenile/family contact.
Equipment:
- Purchased a portable tool-kit that can be used to locate contraband in motor vehicles.
- Evidence and crime scene equipment was purchased to have on hand at the PD.
- Received free medical kits for each patrol car from Johnson County EMA.
- Working on a slight change for the police logo for the new patrol cars.
Enforcement:
- Received an increase in requests for officer presence around the schools, Penn and 380, Dubuque and Juniper, and the construction zones off of HWY 965 during rush hour times.
- Reports of thefts from unlocked motor vehicles and bike thefts near Penn and Stewart Street, and on Circle Drive. Due to the continued thefts, we are looking at equipment and the legal issues for a GPS tracking device to catch the culprits.
- Continue to be involved in animal calls about noise, off leash, lost and recovered pets in town.
Department Admin:
- Continued the process of hiring a part-time records administrative assistant.
- The intern started and is in the process of completing his 150 hours of practical study.
- Policy implementation planning for policies that we currently do not have. Research is being conducted into best practices and needs for NLPD. Minor changes are also being reviewed in-house.
