Equipment:

- A new Ford Explorer is in place and striped. This was a replacement vehicle with new decals. This vehicle’s equipment is installed and in the fleet rotation.
- A squad car was struck while it was parked on the interstate as officers were assisting ICPD in a pursuit. Currently working with the insurance company to try to get the vehicle replaced and a new one back in service.
Enforcement:
- Continue to see an increase and need for officer to respond to animal control calls.
- According to our calls for service from last year at this time to this year, we are around 1400 calls higher. This is a result of other uncategorized categories that we are tracking anytime an officer is out of the patrol car for neighborhood foot patrols and public events. Also we have two additional patrol officers generating officer initiated calls. Call volumes for crimes against person and property appear to be similar from last year’s calls for service.
Department Admin:
- We hired an intern from the University of Dubuque who is from the area. This will be a paid position and he will work in the office and ride along with patrol officers for a total of 150 hours over the summer.
- Lauryn Rich was hired as a part-time office administrative assistant and will help with department records.
- Three North Liberty officers attended a 5 day civil jury trail from a 2007 arrest of Joshua Thomas for Disorderly Conduct and Interference with Official Acts charges. The lawsuit was alleging pain and suffering for injuries sustained during the arrest. The jury found in the officers favor and did not award any money to Plaintiff.
- Officer Campbell and Officer Vazquez successfully completed the Filed Training program and are assigned to solo patrol. The officers will be working a mid shift.
- Officer Ryan Ellis graduated from the 14 week ILEA police academy, July 31st. He will be returning to North Liberty and next month start the 3 month Field Training Officer program.
