Public Relations:
- The department’s driving instructor taught vehicle operations to all departments that operate city vehicles. Topics included were backing and obstacle maneuvering. This was coordinated with the Safety Director and the officer to help educate and promote safe driving for 25 City Employees.
- The department hosted the first Annual Shop with a Cop program. Six children were selected to shop with officers and purchase gifts for their family. The kids also picked out surprise gifts that Santa delivered. This program was successful because of partnering with the schools. We also received donations from the public and $400 from Walmart. $1000 was spent on the program including the wrapping paper, name tags and pizza party.
- We are taking applications for the citizen police academy that will start in January.
- Officers presented ALICE intruder drills at North Bend Elementary to all staff.
- Officers also observed and presented at Heritage Christian School active intruder drills.
- 4 Officers volunteers for the Habitat for Humanity home build again.
- Two officers attended a public presentation at Bachmeier Carpet One Floor and Home which honored owners Ernie and Kathy Bachmeier for their generous support to the Foundation’s Building for America’s Bravest (BFAB) program. They were presented with a shadow box containing steel from 9/11 by a Lieutenant from the NYFD. Local Police and Fire Departments were invited for this special award.
- The department would like to thank everyone who brought us in treats for the Holidays. Everything was delicious and very much appreciated!
- A New Dodge Charger was put back in service from the crash that happened on I380.
- Replacement body worn cameras were ordered and received. We were experiencing problems with downloading because the ports are wearing out. Three new cameras were put into the rotation to replace the faulty cameras.
Enforcement:
- Officers wrote parking violations during snow emergencies.
- Officers have also responded to more disturbance type calls and welfare checks during the Holiday season.
Department Admin:
- The department was a part of several discussions about city resolutions, city ordinances, state laws and the constitution within the department and with members of the public. Plus several discussions occurred for allowable restrictions on free speech and weapons.
- Interviews were held for new officer applicants in front of a 6 member panel. The top three applicants will continue in the process and have a final interview with the Chief before the medicals, physicals, psychological and background check continues.
- A conditional offer was made to one candidate with the focus on meeting the January 11th start date for ILEA.
- The department has begun researching and pricing out the cost and need of a K-9. Several officers have volunteered to help by hosting fundraising events in order to pay for the resource. One idea is putting together a donation drive and also a K-9 5K. This is something that can become a yearly event for the department and would help with maintenance costs for the vehicle and dog.
- Union Negotiations were held this month and are ongoing.
- Supervisors are working on the end of the year performance appraisals for all employees.
- Working on a new concept for reporting for the Annual Report that we can also make part of the overall reporting for NLPD.
- Total CFS for the year is +/-5 calls. This is an increase in around 2200 calls from the previous year. As the population increased and more officers are on staff these numbers will increase. Calls for Service are logged with dispatch for any activity, either officer requested or officer initiated. These lists will be compiled and made public.
