RIP, Water Tower One
Update: High winds has prevented the work from beginning on Jan. 26. The demolition crew hopes for favorable conditions Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the afternoon. However, if weather conditions don’t improve, demolition could be delayed until February or March due to the contractor’s schedule.
Weather permitting, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, beginning at 6 a.m., Main Street will be closed just south of its intersection of Cherry Street so crews can take down the Water Tower One. The work is expected to be complete by 6 p.m.
In addition, some unloading and loading will take place along Cherry and Main streets on Monday, Jan. 25, which may temporarily affect some traffic.
Water Tower One has been in disuse for the past several years and, until recently, only served as a home for cell and other equipment (much of which was relocated to a tower located off Front Street). Tower One’s smaller capacity and age made it costly and impractical to keep in service.
Drivers are asked to use caution around the work site, allow extra travel time, and find alternative routes when possible.
