Pilot transit program ending Sept. 1

North Liberty’s weekday, intracity pilot bus program will be ended on Sept. 1, 2017. The program saw just an average of 25 trips per month, at an average cost to the city of $224.25 per ride, since its operation began in October 2016. The regular commuter route, in partnership with Coralville Transit, will continue.

The pilot fixed-route service specifically targeted those without cars, and those who can no longer drive, with the goal of helping them reach services in the community, such as the grocery store, Community Center, the doctor’s office and the community pantry.

Meanwhile, the city’s transit task force will be reconvened to discuss potential options for public transit serving North Liberty.
